Philippine Eagle stuffed toys were dressed up, showing the rich culture of the country, as Marco Polo Ortigas Manila holds the Wings of Hope Costume-making Contest amongst its associates.
Last November 2016, the hotel has launched its Wings of Hope campaign, that aims to help the Philippine Eagle Foundation preserve the national bird, as well as bring smiles to indigent children for the holiday season. As part of the second phase of the said campaign, the hotel has invited the different departments of the house to design and create a costume for the stuffed toy depicting the Filipino culture. Designs must be eminently practical, and inexpensive, yet artistic and elegant.
Judging the costumes were selected advocates of the Philippine Eagle Foundation. Renowned fashion designer who have brought the Philippine culture around the world, Renee Salud. He has also designed the special costumes for the Philippine Eagle stuffed toys which were auctioned in Davao. Second judge is the AVP of Corporate Audit Department of Philippine Airlines, she has helped the hotel in bringing the stuffed eagles from Davao to Manila. She has also helped in the auction of the special and limited edition stuffed toys, Babyruth Chuaunsu. One of the partners who have brought the Mindanao Tapestry, a showcase of the Davao fabric and weavers, to life, Business Mirror Group VP for Advertising Sales, Marvin Estigoy, plays the third judge. Lastly is the hotel General Manager, Frank Reichenbach.
Gathering seven entries from the different departments, three were chosen. Third place goes to the work of art by the Finance department. The crown and its dress is made from the traditional walis tambo. The Human Resources received the second prize with its ethnic costume made from a recycled bag and rooster feather, and wooden necklace, a true Ifugao clothing.
Grand prize goes to the Front Office department. Inspired by the gown of the 2015 Miss Universe, Pia Wurtzbach, when she received her crown. Its blue skirt complements the ethnic top with hand-woven banig as the lining. To top it all off, it has an elegant crown made of capiz, completing the “Confidently Beautiful” look.
The winning costume will be used as the look for the upcoming limited edition Philippine Eagle stuffed toy, to be sold at the hotel.
“It is our goal to always help the Philippine Eagle Foundation in any way we can. This phase aims to continue the cause, and showcase the rich Filipino culture. And we are very glad that we gathered beautiful creations for this,” says General Manager Frank Reichenbach.
