Jeweler and entrepreneur Janina Dizon Hoscka leads a fast-pace life. Always jaunting off to one country or another, she has mastered the art of travel. Here, she shares with us her favorite urban destinations and her secrets to packing for a successful and stress-free trip.

Why do you love to travel?

To enjoy new experiences and to seek inspiration. I always view travelling as a great opportunity since it opens doors to new challenges and ideas that we would not normally see on a daily basis.

How often do you travel?

Often enough that I know the flight attendants already! :-)

What is your favorite city and why?

My favorite city would have to be Bangkok and Paris. I used to live in Bangkok so it is like my second home. I even learned the language. Paris on the other hand is where you go to eat, pray, love (and shop).

Name a few essential places to visit in your favorite city. Why are they essential?

Bangkok- Have an authentic Thai massage at the Mandarin Oriental for its breathtaking view of the Chao Phraya River. It still retains its old world charm.

Krabi for the rock climbing! It’s an awesome adrenaline rush!

Paris- Rue St. Honore for the shopping and any walk along the Seine is always a must. My husband and I actually had a picnic along the Pont des Art.

What are three good places to eat in in that city and why?

Bangkok- the Loft- a glorified food court where everything is good and priced reasonably!

Thai Restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental.- old world charm street food near MBK- I dream of the grilled beef!

Paris- Alain Ducasse at the Plaza Athenee- if you’re going to splurge, do it here.

Le Buisson Ardent- try the mango tarte tatin with the lemon froth- bliss!

Name some must-buys in your favorite city?

BKK- I always buy food condiments there, whether it is fish sauce or spices. I find it better tasting.

Paris- Hermes and Chanel since they are at least 30% cheaper than anywhere else!

What are five things you must bring with you on every trip overseas?

Camera, mobile phone, credit cards, sunglasses and jewelry.

Any tips on staying comfortable during long plane rides?

Silicon ear plugs, travel pillow, socks and your own cozy blanket. Airline blankets = eewww.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned in your travels?

Don’t ever forget your passport and your credit cards. Everything else, you can buy.

What city that you haven’t been to yet would you like to visit?

I’ve always wanted to visit the Scandinavian countries. Perhaps next year.

Where are you headed to next?

Melbourne, Australia in the fall
